So much to tell!

OK, another catch-up session in several parts.

Here are some things she's been doing lately:

I love watching her sit.  She turns around, backs up slowly to the seat, and then carefully sits.  Initially, she wasn't so good at turning all the way around and lining herself up properly with the seat, so we had to help her not miss, but she's pretty well got it down, now.

She dances up a storm.  She has always "danced", from the very beginning of her ability to move at all.  But now she has lots of different moves.  Rocking, stepping, spinning.  The first time she got the hang of spinning, I was saying something like, "look at you; you're spinning!", and she immediately pointed to the ceiling fan.  Brilliant, right?  Lately she's been spinning until she gets dizzy.

If she brings me a book to read, and I don't react quickly enough to her request (like if I'm on the phone), she opens my hand and inserts the book.

I am sorry to report that she has figured out how to start the DVD player.  Fortunately, she can't reach the TV buttons and can't work the remotes, yet, but I know it won't be long.

Words:
Este/ese (=this/that).
What's this/that? (I'm not even sure what the sound is, but I can usually tell that she's aiming for something like "what's this?"; it's got a long way to go before it's intelligible, though.)
Thanks  ("Gnks")
Please (Sometimes "ps" and sometimes the sign.)
Book ("Bk")
Outside ("Ous")
"Gee" (hard g, maybe from doggie?), is a word she uses about cuddly things, like stuffed animals (as opposed to "gat", which is a 4-legged animal). So in the Christmas video below you'll hear us both saying "gee" (and if you're quite reasonably wondering if it's because the pillow has doggies on it, it would be the only instance I'm aware of in which she called an actual doggie "gee").

Speaking of gats, we are sad to report that we lost our sweet Melina a couple of weeks ago, to liver failure/old age (she was about 80 (16)).  We miss her a lot.  I'm not sure if Charlotte noticed her absence or not.  She didn't go around looking for her, but I can't believe she didn't notice in some way considering how much attention she paid to her while she was around.  Poor Melina was so tolerant of all her attention! Our other cat definitely noticed, and came down with diabetes a week later.  The vet said the stress of losing Melina may have contributed to the timing.

Charlotte is becoming very interested in older kids, though she still isn't very interested in kids her own age and is shy of adult strangers.  We first noticed this in October in Kansas, and again at Thanksgiving and Christmas with her cousins.  She met her cousin Luke, who is 5, at Grandma and Grandpa's house over Christmas.  Charlotte thought he was pretty darn cool.
